Description
A seminal work by Fr. Schmemann on the subject of liturgical theology, developing specific key themes around the question of the ordo or shape of worship as it evolved in the Orthodox Church from the very early years down to its formalization in the ninth to twelfth centuries. A masterful historical and critical introduction to any student of liturgical theology.
ReviewBy: Benjamin Williams
While published over 20 years ago, this text is still surprisingly relevant, due to its depth of treatment of liturgical theology and its development, and the historical sweep that Fr. Schmemann includes: from the development of liturgical dress to the codification of liturgical services, rites and prayers. Well written, and built on the foundation of his classis text "For The Life of the World."
