This CD is the most recent (2004) to be recorded by the Monks of Simonopetra Monastery on Mt. Athos. It includes hymnology from the services of Vespers and Matins for the feast of St. Silouan. While recorded in Greece by the monks of Simonopetra, the CD is copyrighted by The Monastery of St. John the Baptist in Essex, England, the monastery St. Silouan founded late in his life. Liner notes in English and Greek, no hymn text.

This CD is a welcome new release of Byzantine liturgical chant from one of the foremost monasteries on Mt. Athos, well known for their previous series of weekly service recordings. This is likely to become a particular favorite, given that it includes the hymns for the commemoration of St. Silouan the Athonite, an Athonite monastic saint of the late 20th century. It is chanted in the "Simonopetra" style, with a choir of male cantor voices, and a delightful ison. This could very well be the only recording of the Apolytikion and Megalynarion of St. Silouan, and the entire service is chanted with palpable devotion and respect. This recording is nicely done, capturing and conveying the feeling of being in a monastery catholikon or chapel on St. Silouan's feast day. Particularly responsible for this feeling is the inclusion of "Selection of verses from the psalter for a Monk Ascetic," and the read and chanted versions of "Yearning for God."
