One of the most recent of this series of discs combines proper chants for Easter Sunday, including those sung at the altar, with the Ordinary in Palestrina?s setting of Missa Regina caeli for four-voice choir, which is based on the familiar Marian chant antiphon for Easter season. This was the first recording of the Palestrina work. The motets for offertory and communion are by Verdelot and Gascogne.
ReviewBy: Fr. Jerome Weber
This disc is superb, for the choir has sung this music for Mass on Easter Sunday for a number of years. Since there is no other recording of the Palestrina setting, this disc fills a need. As on the recording Solemn Mass of the Assumption of Our Lady, the surround sound is spectacular. This might be a good disc to use as an introduction to the series of St. Gregory Masses.
