    Morning Prayers

(A shortened version to be said upon rising. At (+) the sign of the cross is made. During Great Lent and Holy Week, the additional indicated prayers are said.)

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

    The Trisagion Prayers

O Heavenly King, Comforter, Spirit of Truth, Who are everywhere present and filling all things, Treasury of blessings and Giver of life: Come and dwell in us, and cleanse us of all impurity, and save our souls, O Good One.

(+) Holy God, Holy Mighty, Holy Immortal, have mercy on us. (3 times)

(+) Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, both now and ever, and unto the ages of ages. Amen.

O Most Holy Trinity, have mercy on us. O Lord, cleanse us from our sins. O Master, pardon our iniquities. O Holy One, visit and heal our infirmities for Thy name's sake.

    Lord, have mercy. (3x)

(+) Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto ages of ages.

Our Father, who art in Heaven, hallowed be Thy name. Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Thine is the Kingdom, and the power, and the glory, of the (+) Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

    Prayer to the Holy Trinity

Having arisen from sleep, we fall down before You, O Blessed One, and sing to You, O Mighty One, the Angelic Hymn: Holy, holy, holy are Thou, O God through the intercessions of the Theotokos have mercy on me.

(+) Glory to the Father and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit:

Having raised me from my bed and sleep, O Lord, enlighten my mind and my heart, and open my lips that I may praise Thee, O Holy Trinity: Holy, holy, holy are Thou, O God, through the intercessions of the Theotokos have mercy on me.

Now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Suddenly the Judge will come, and the deeds of each will be revealed; but in the middle of the night we cry with fear: Holy, Holy, Holy are Thou, O God, through the intercessions of the Theotokos have mercy on me.

    Lord, have mercy. (12 times).

First Prayer, by St. Macarius the Great

O God, cleanse me a sinner, for I have done nothing good in your sight. Deliver me from the evil one, and may Your will be within me so that I may open my unworthy lips without condemnation and praise Your holy name of the (+) Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

Seventh Prayer, by St. Basil the Great

We bless You, most high God and Lord of mercies, who ever does great and unfathomable things for us; glorious, wonderful and numberless. You have given us sleep as rest for our infirmities. We thank You for not destroying us in our lawlessness. Instead, you have shown Your usual love for mankind, and raised us as we lay in despair, to glorify Your Kingdom. Therefore we implore Your boundless goodness: enlighten our thoughts and eyes, and awaken our minds from the heavy sleep of laziness. Open our lips and fill them with Your praise, that we may unwaveringly hymn and confess You, the God glorified in all and by all, Father without beginning, and Your only-begotten Son, and Your all-holy and life-giving Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

    Lord, have mercy. (3 times)

(+) Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; now and ever, and unto ages of ages. Amen.

    The Creed

I believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible. And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the Son of God, the Only-begotten, begotten of the Father before all ages. Light of Light; true God of true God; begotten, not made; of one essence with the Father, by whom all things were made; Who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven and was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, and became man. And He was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate, and suffered, and was buried. And the third day He rose again, according to the Scriptures, and ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of the Father. And He shall come again with glory to judge the living and the dead; Whose Kingdom shall have no end. And in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the Giver of Life, Who proceeds from the Father; Who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified; Who spoke by the prophets. In one Holy, Catholic, and apostolic Church. I acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins. I look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the age to come. Amen.

    Conclusion

More honorable than the Cherubim, and more glorious without compare than the Seraphim, without defilement you gave birth to God the Word, truly Theotokos, you do we magnify.

(+) Glory to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit; now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

    Lord, have mercy (3 times)

Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, for the sake of the prayers of Your most pure mother, our venerable God-bearing fathers, and of all the saints, save me a sinner. Amen.

First Prayer, by St. Macarius the Great

O Eternal God and King of all Creation, who has granted me to reach this hour; forgive the sins I have committed this day in deed, word and thought. Cleanse, O Lord, my humble soul from every defilement of flesh and spirit. Grant, Lord, that I may pass through this night in peace. When I rise in my humble bed may I please Your most holy Name all the days of my life and trample under foot the physical and bodiless enemies that war against me. Deliver me, Lord, from vain thoughts that defile me and from evil lusts. For Yours is the Kingdom, and the Power and the Glory, of the Father and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

    Fifth Prayer

O Lord, my God, forgive me all the sins I have committed this day in word, or deed, or thought, for You are good and love mankind. Grant me peaceful and undisturbed sleep, and deliver me from all temptations of the evil one. Raise me up in proper time that I may glorify you. Surround me with your holy Angels, so that guided and guarded by their host, I may attain to the unity of the faith and the full knowledge of your unapproachable glory. For you are the Guardian of our souls and bodies, and to You we ascribe glory, to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit, now and ever and unto ages of ages. Amen.

    Lord, have mercy. (3 times)

    Lord, abandon me not.

Lord, lead me not into temptation.

    Lord, grant me good thoughts.

Lord, grant me tears, the remembrance of death and compunction.

Lord, grant me the thought of confessing my sins.
