In the series devoted to the forms of Gregorian chant, this disc contains ten offertories. Eight of them are sung with their verses, which are regarded by all commentators as the most elaborate virtuoso chants in the entire repertoire. Although the verses were dropped about 800 years ago, a modern edition (1935) has led to extensive study of their remarkable qualities.
ReviewBy: Fr. Jerome Weber
This is an invaluable presentation of offertories with verses. The most elaborate of the group is the only recording of Sanctificavit Moyses, an astonishing performance that last over seventeen minutes. The selections are balanced between the most familiar and the unfamiliar offertories with verses. This must be considered the most impressive of all the discs in the Ars Gregoriana series.
